Delicious Italian Sub Squares: A Perfect Crowd-Pleasing Recipe

When you need to feed a large group—whether it’s game day, a family reunion, or any festive gathering—Italian sub squares are a delicious and filling option. This meal captures the spirit of a traditional Italian sub sandwich in a lighthearted, shareable format. A flaky crescent roll crust holds a plethora of flavorful meats, cheeses, and veggies, all baked to golden perfection. The gratifying and easy-to-handle nature of these squares makes them a favorite among both children and adults.

Serving Suggestions

For a well-rounded meal, serve these Italian sub squares alongside a fresh side salad or a hearty bowl of minestrone soup. If you want to take it up a notch, pair them with garlic bread and a variety of antipasto. Antipasto typically includes olives, marinated vegetables, and a selection of Italian cheeses, enhancing the meal’s Italian-American influence. To wash it all down, consider refreshing beverages like sweet tea or carbonated soda.

Ingredients

To make Italian sub squares, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 2 containers of crescent rolls (stored in the fridge)
  • ½ pound of ham
  • ½ pound of salami
  • Slightly under ½ pound of provolone cheese (sliced or shredded)
  • ½ cup of pepperoni slices
  • ½ cup of drained banana pepper rings
  • ½ cup of drained and diced roasted red peppers
  • 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning
  • ¼ cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup of olive oil
  • Optional: Sliced tomato and lettuce for serving

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2: Prepare the Crescent Roll Base

Take one can of crescent rolls and flatten the dough. Carefully place it into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, ensuring to seal the seams and push the dough slightly up the edges of the dish.

Step 3: Layer the Meats and Cheeses

Next, layer half of the salami, ham, and provolone cheese over the crescent roll base. After adding the meats and cheese, evenly distribute the pepperoni slices, banana pepper rings, and diced roasted red peppers on top.

Step 4: Season the Layers

Sprinkle the Italian seasoning evenly over the top of the pepper mixture. Then, place the remaining provolone cheese, ham, and salami on top of this seasoned layer.
